Historic Civil War Flags
to be Unveiled at the New Jersey State Museum

-The
New
Jersey
State
Museum
unvieled
five
historic
Civil
War
flags
in
a
special
exhibition
that
will
be
on
display
until
June
2025.
This
display
of
Civil
War
Flag,
located
in
the
museum's
first-floor
exhibit
hall
at
205
West
State
Street,
Trenton,
offers
a
rare
opportunity
to
view
some of the most distinctive flags in the state’s Civil War collection.
These flags, which have not been displayed for several years, include:
•
The national colors of the 4th and 40th Infantry regiments,
•
The state colors of the 2nd Infantry,
•
A guidon from the 2nd Cavalry,
•
A
Confederate
flag
captured
by
New
Jersey
troops
at
the
Battle
of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863.
The
exhibit
will
also
present
a
Confederate
flag
that
was
captured
by
New
Jersey
troops,
with
new
insights
and
possible
identification
to
be
revealed.
Additionally,
a
flag
from
the
2nd
Infantry,
lost
during
the
Battle
of
Gaines’
Mill
in
1862
and
later
recovered,
will be included in this historic display.
The
exhibition,
curated
by
Nicholas
Ciotola,
Curator
of
Cultural
History
at
the
New
Jersey
State
Museum,
also
features
rotating
displays
of
Civil
War-related
photographs, sculptures, and memorabilia.
This
special
event
is
part
of
Patriots
Week,
a
celebration
of
New
Jersey’s
rich
history
and
contribution
to
the
Civil
War.
Admission
to
the
museum is free during the event.
